When I first announced to my family that I was headed to
Southeast Asia they were a little skeptical. The thought of me visiting
Vietnam, a former U.S. warzone, was a little unsettling for some family
members. However, the Vietnam War was decades ago. Since then, the Vietnamese
government has put aside tension to become a leading trader and tourism
attraction with the U.S. The country appeared to be very progressive and held
little grudges for our former political disagreements.
But, the Vietnam War Museum was a trip back in time and held
memories of darker days. Visiting the museum was a part of our group’s culture
experience. Here we saw the harsh realities of the war. There were moving photographs, testimonies of war victims and the results of atomic warfare. We visited a war zone sight in addition to the museum. The entire experience was moving and it was exceptionally meaningful to visit the actual battle sight.
A hidden tunnel used by the Vietnamese to escape. The system runs underneath the country and reaches its boarders.
These "ant hills" covered the tops of secret tunnels. The small holes on the surface allowed air in.
The Vietnamese forrest. The scenery reminded me of a Hollywood movie set.
I survived exploring the secret tunnels (but I did not travel all the way to Cambodia!) With a temperature of 90F it was very warm inside.
